#CountdownToCoachella – Notable Acts

Its hard to know where to start with this line-up, much less know where to end. There is legitimately 15-20 acts I’d love to catch each night, but we all know that’s impossible. I would think 8… maybe 10 shows per day are realistic. I have no clue how big this place, or what the crowds will look like either. 75,000 people shuffling between 5 stages, should be a like sardines in a can. Oh well, it doesn’t matter. Crowds? …(Read more)

26 days until lift-off. Let’s kick start the afternoon with the best of the Southern Rock scene. Today’s #Countdown2Coachella artist is Gary Clark, Jr. This guy was the talk of the town at #SXSW in Austin, TX… and its not just because he’s from there. Gary has some serious range. Southern Rock. 50′s Motown. Blues. Jazz. If you made a love child out of Robert Randolph, Mayer Hawthorne, Chuck Berry, Dan Auerbach and Buddy Holly… you would get the young …(Read more)

#Countdown2Coachella begins NOW!

It’s officially 30 days from the start of Coachella. Well, actually it’s 30 days from the beginning of Weekend #2, whatever… that’s the only weekend that matters to me since that’s the weekend I’ll be there. That’s right, BOP CITY GOES TO COACHELLA. Let’s hope we (I) make it back alive. Starting tonight, I’ll post music each day of a different artist performing at the back-to-back weekend/three day festival. For new comers, Coachella takes place in the desert of Indio, …(Read more)

Take off the t-shirt before you jinx the band… and they break up

I wasn’t alive when the Beatles broke up, but I’m sure I would have been plenty butt hurt about it. Call it creative differences, or Yoko… either way you cut, it sucked for the fans. These bands become a part of your life. As pathetic as it may be, we draw connections with this music. The story line, the lyrics – all of it. And when the band members decide they can’t play nice, or one of them wants to go …(Read more)

25 Concerts to catch this Fall in Chicago

As the summer winds down, several bands are prepping for their fall tours. I’m sure some of you are wiped out from summer shenanigans, but you have several reasons to get off your A$$ and catch some good tunes. I know just about every weekend has been filled with street fests and concerts, but a few of my favorite festivals were plagued with problems with Mother Nature. For instance, Pitchfork Music Festival in July had temperatures over 100 degrees for three …(Read more)

2011 Lollapalooza Preview

It’s back. One of the biggest music festivals in the world is just a few days away. Lollapalooza sells out for the first time in three years, on this being their 20th Anniversary. After the initial line-up announcement, I had some questions about some of the choices (based on some of Lolla’s competition this year). Coachella had Kanye and Jay-Z the last two years, same with Bonnaroo. So, when the list posted this spring, outside of Eminem… I was left …(Read more)

Blalock’s Indie Rock Playlist Top 10: May 2011

Blalock’s Indie Playlist (Blalock’s Playlist) releases roughly 125 indie songs a month. I listen to it, and whittle it down to between 30-50 songs I enjoy, some more than others. Below are my top 10.  Where music video’s/YouTube samples exist, I’ve linked to them. To get the mp3’s of these songs, please just send an email address (it doesn’t have to be yours, you just have to have access to it) to kylempalmer @ gmail.com. I’ll send an invite to …(Read more)
